The Path With Which Guides
December 22, 2018
The path with which guides is not linear
like long flat highways unrolled between fields dotted with corn,
expanding endlessly into future with certainty
and expected yields recorded on spreadsheet.
Dumb would be the man who banked
on unchanging sunsets, the greenest of harvests, and sky nectar
that fell in even drops just when needed.
Contemporary life is more like a traffic circle
in groups of three, sending you screaming through
cemented curves, jerking the independent wheel, at the last minute
trying, guessing, anticipating,
reaching into atmosphere for a plan on paper,
like classroom equations with only one answer,
but your breath is all you have.
