Daily Script

All the experts say that if you want to get a feel for writing scripts, then you have to read what’s already out there.  Thankfully, that doesn’t involve buying obscure writing magazines, although you can still do that if that’s your plan.  A more accessible route is through the Daily Script website, http://www.dailyscript.com/movie.html.  Currently, I’m reading the script for the 40 Year-Old Virgin.  This is a great comedy script written by Judd Apatow and Steve Carrel.  About half way through the script, I wonder if regular folk know how enjoyable it is to read a movie script just as if it were a short story or novel.  I chose this script precisely because I have never seen the movie, and so, will be able to see the transformation of script to screen in a fresh light.  No matter what your level of writing or genre, you have to appreciate the care that goes into crafting a screenplay!
